Pyjamas are the new skinny jeans, my friends!

The word is out. Two of my favourite bloggers (coincidentally, two of my favourite Emilies), Emily-Jane Clark of How To Survive a Sleep Thief, and the Emily better known as Toddler Mama of Hold Me, Don’t Hold Me, have joined forces to start a wardrobe revolution.

No more selfies of new Mums squeezing into their skinny jeans minutes after giving birth, all proud and unable to breathe. Instead, embrace comfort! There’s no-nonsense style in loose tracky-dacks! Understated elegance in baggy pyjama bottoms! Classy, er, accessorising in booger-stained hoodies! Plus, you can bend over and sit down easily. I need to bend over. I like to sit down. Pyjamas win!

These two wise and funny Mums have sounded the call to arms: post a picture of yourself wearing your favourite soft pants or pyjamas, instead of skinny jeans and a pout. Well, pout optional I suppose.

We’re taking this thing global, with comfy Mums from the UK, the US and now Australia on board. A few minor discrepancies (like how to spell pyjamas/pajamas, and whether a thong is a piece of uncomfortable underwear or a piece of extremely casual footwear) aside, we’re all on the same page:

Pyjamas. One day we'll all wear them 24/7, if this revolution pans out.
Pyjamas. One day we’ll all wear them 24/7, if this revolution pans out.

The comfortable one. Will you join us?

Post a picture of yourself wearing your favourite comfortable outfit to Facebook or Twitter with the tag #notskinnyjeansselfie, and nominate three friends to do the same. It might not be pretty, but it sure will be comfortable.

Vive la revolution!

Vive les pyjamas!

  1. I have a robe just like that. Little did I know the genius that is essentially walking around in a towel with arms until I had a kid. Now it’s like, “spilled your milk? No prob, I’ll just wipe it up with my arm.” Best gift I ever got!
